Makoti is a small town located in Ward County, North Dakota, United States. As of the 2010 census, the population was 154. The town is situated on North Dakota Highway 23, approximately 30 miles northwest of Minot. Makoti was founded in 1906 and named after a Sioux Indian word meaning "earth woman." The economy of Makoti is primarily based on agriculture and oil production. The town has a post office, a public school, a community center, and several churches. Makoti is also home to the annual Makoti Threshing Show, which celebrates the area's agricultural heritage and includes demonstrations of vintage farming equipment, craft sales, and live music.
